HISTORY OF UDAIPUR

Udaipur is renowned for its captivating charm, its kind and hospitable atmosphere, and its rich regal Mewar past. Many locations and monuments have captivating histories that draw visitors from all over the world. This is a quick summary of Udaipur's history in bullet points.

Origin and Foundation

•In 1553, Maharana Udai Singh of the Mewar dynasty established a discovery of Udaipur.

'Udaipur' was the name given to it in honor of the King.

•Because Udaipur was a fertile land when it was discovered by the Mewar dynasty, the King named it the new capital. Chittorgarh served as the capital of the Mewar kingdom prior to Udaipur.

•Due to the fighting, Maharana Udai Singh II decided to move the capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur. He wished to transfer his money to a safer area.

•The Mewar dynasty was already familiar with the Ayad region because, in the tenth century, it functioned as their capital.

• Because Ayad was prone to flooding at the period, Maharana Udai Singh II did not chose the place to construct the main palace of the new capital city.

 • As a result, the main palace, today known as City Palace, was constructed in the east of Pichola Lake.

•The monarch constructed a 6-kilometer wall with the following principal gates: Brahmpole, Ambapole, Hathipole, Udiapole, Chandpole, and Surajpole, to ensure the security of the new capital.

•Today, people refer to the region inside the wall as "The Old City."

• Because Udaipur was in a mountainous area and would have been impossible for their army to take with them heavy armored horses and weapons, the British had little interest in conquering the city.
