EKLING JI MAHADEV TEMPLE


MEWAD KE RAJA 🙏 Located in Kailashpuri, near the historic town of Nagda, Eklingji Temple is a revered Hindu shrine in Udaipur district, Rajasthan. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped as the ruling deity (Kula Devata) of Mewar. The Maharana of Mewar traditionally serves as the temple's Dewan (minister), symbolizing divine governance.

AFTERNOON10:30 am to 1:30 pm
EVENING5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

At all other times, the temple is closed and visitors are not permitted to have darshan.

 

 

  • According to the 15th-century text Ekalinga Mahatmya, the temple was originally built in the 8th century by Bappa Rawal, the founder of the Mewar dynasty.
  • The original structure and idol were destroyed during invasions by the Delhi Sultanate.
  • In the 14th century, Rana Hamir Singh restored the temple and reinstalled a new idol.
  • Rana Kumbha, in the 15th century, rebuilt the temple and also constructed a Vishnu temple nearby. His 1460 inscription calls him the "personal servant of Ekling."
  • Ghiyath Shah of the Malwa Sultanate attacked and plundered the temple in the late 15th century.
  • Rana Raimal (1473–1509), son of Kumbha, defeated and ransomed Ghiyath Shah, using the wealth to restore the temple and install the current deity.
  • Initially associated with the Pashupata sect, the temple later came under Nath yogis before being entrusted to the Ramanandi sect in the 16th century.

# Rules and regulation which should be kept in while visiting the temple -

# No entry if you are wearing short cloths  (for both male and female)

# Acc. to new rules Phones are completely forbidden inside the temple.

# Please do not attempt to take any pictures or videos within the temple and could result in disciplinary action from the temple's guardians.

#Do not wear shoes and socks inside the temple premises. 
#Do not wear any leather objects inside the temple (belt, jacket, bag). 
#Do not visit the temple if you have consumed any form of alcohol or nonvegetarian food. 
#Do not spit in the temple area. 
#Do not throw any garbage or make the place dirty.
#Do not touch any idol inside the temple chamber.
#Do not eat anything in the temple, and you should have a clean mouth while worshiping the god or godesses.
